The position of Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has been filled by Dr. George Sigounas, a professor and cancer researcher at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. Dr. Sigounas is a professor within the Division of Hematology and Oncology at East Carolina University.
He received his PhD from Boston University and completed a post-doc fellowship at the National Institutes of Health and Naval Medical Center. His research focuses on various types of cancer as well as stem cells and cancer initiating cells. Dr. Sigounas assumed the post from Acting HRSA Administrator James Macrae. The position of HRSA Administrator does not require Senate confirmation, so Dr. Sigounas has already stepped into the role.
